ABOUT

"Our art is for those
who are wild, who have a dream, for the brave, for the poetry warriors among us,
for those who dare to face their own vulnerability, for those who are homesick for a better world,
for those who are out of control, for the untamed, for the others.

If you are one of those our art is for you."

bambule.babys is a German performance collective known for its provocative, daring and unsettling works.

"bambule.babys is a fierce exploration of the multi facets of our patriarchal, capitalistic culture - in reaction to the environment in which we grew up. The name bambule has its origin in the screenplay Bambule of later RAF terrorist Ulrike Meinhof about a girls' riot in a community home. The babys symbolize our vulnerability as humans", says artistic director Anna Valeska Pohl.

bambule.babys work with international collaborators and present their work at international festivals.
The performance installation Baby Paradise about a Barbie doll-playing prostitute was performed for a full run at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, UK in two serial parts. The Guardian calls the 'intense and deeply unsettling work' a ***** must-see show. In interviews Pohl stated that the inspiration for Baby Paradise came from her former relationship with a sex worker.
First iterations of the performance series my home is not my home were presented at 2018 International Performance Crossings in Prague, CZ and in several site-specific spaces.

bambule.babys are born out of a DIY-spirit. It began - wild and dirty in 2014 - in the German hinterland of Bavaria with a series of performances in chapels, living rooms, bars, abandoned stores and in front of the toilettes (MUTANTENGESCHLECHT 2014, Cecilia 2015/16).
In March 2018 the Regensburg Department of Culture censored the performance my home is not my home, while accusing bambule.babys of blasphemy and pornography. As a result artistic director Anna Valeska Pohl became a persona non grata and bambule babys are now literally banned from their hometown. In a recent interview Pohl talks about how bambule.babys' work fights censorship and patriarchy.

bambule.babys are now based in Berlin where they are working on new projects in their studio in Greenhouse, Tempelhof.
